How to Remove Your Personal Information from Google
When people do a google search of themselves, they are upset to see that there is a lot of personal information about them online. However, it is important to know that google is mostly just the messenger, not the data leaker. Though, information that you might be sharing on Gmail, hangouts, docs and other places within the google community may be a source of information that can be addressed directly. If you see a lot of your data is being shared and interchanged with google, you can choose not to allow google to sign-in to other accounts. Unfortunately, doing this makes it very convenient to login-to coupled websites such as apps and other sites that use your google presence to join the sites. When this option comes up “log-in with your google account” click “No,” and let that be the end of it. If, however, you find it more convenient to use your google account to join with other websites, then do so, but try to go to your settings and keep your sharing private. The only real way to keep your privacy intact on google is to create bogus accounts, with fake names and addresses. But this will not help if you’re trying to start a business or find a job. Many job site and boards use your google account to verify you when you fill out an application online. So weigh the benefits verses the drawbacks before you remove your google account or unjoin them. It may be better to simply remove your data from third party sites like data brokers and background check sites. These tend to be more invasive than google ever is. Sites like this actually post your home address online, your phone numbers, your family names, and other private data, whereas google does not post these things. You can also easily remove any private info from google by going into your settings and removing it.
If you do find that a google search brings up personal data, it may not even be coming from google but rather from various other sources like social media and people search websites. In these cases you have to do the work to remove your personal information because there is no option or settings on people search sites that allow you to set your info to private. While you can do this with your social media, the other sites will require you or a internet data removal company to deal with them directly to get that data offline. You may have to send a letter or email and provide proof of identity.
Either way, if you are a private person, it is worth the time and effort to get this data off of google or other websites that google returns from a search with your data on them. Just remember, that not all of these companies will be cooperative and you might need an expert to give your assistance removing your personal information off the internet.
