Want to remove your personal search results from Google? Here’s how the request form works
Google created a form to send in as a response to privacy acts and certain copyright and other laws to protect the privacy of individuals. The google form is used to remove specific information from their search logs. They cannot remove specific information from webpages, websites, blogs or social media pages. If there are things like pictures, comments, addresses, and other personal data that is on a specific website, google has no control over that data, they only have control over the data that comes up in their search algorithm. The form allows you to request that google remove specific information like your bank account number, credit card numbers, sexually explicit images or videos that were posted without your permission, an image of your handwritten signature. Child abuse images are automatically removed, and content is removed with valid legal requests, such as copyright infringement. They will not remove your name, home address, telephone numbers, or date of birth.
If you have information such as that outlined above, you can directly contact google to request to have personal information removed from Google Search results. To do this you would use the remove information from Google page which can be found on their general website. Legal removals have a different process. If you have specific legal removals such as copyright infringement, a court order, witness protection program order, or other information that would legally mandate that the information be removed, you can reach out to Google’s legal removals page. Be sure that your documentation is current and accurate and contains everything Google needs to remove the data from their search results. Also, provide a valid way to contact you should there be questions or concerns that need to be answered before processing can begin.
Once your request is received it can take anywhere from five to ten business days for them to respond to your request. If it is a search result request, they will take down the page or pages that contain the information. You can also contact the webmaster of the website also, as if the page still exists, the information will be searchable by another search engine. Having the information taken off the actual website is your best line of defense. With a legal request, google will take the search page down as soon as possible. Again, as with other search removal requests, contacting the webmaster of the actual website in question is the best action to take. If the data is not on the page, it can’t be searched by any engine and won’t be viewed by anyone. However, removing it from a google search will still leave the data on the World Wide Web for others to potentially find and see.
If this processes seems too time consuming or confusing, a data removal company can help get the forms submitted and assist in contacting the webmasters directly.
